Electrofringe: a participatory curatorial platform
[Text nur in englischer Sprache verfügbar] Since 1998, Electrofringe has been bringing artists, hackers, activists, and entrepreneurs together, providing a stimulating environment for electronic art in Australia. Much alike LPM and other audiovisual meetings in Europe, Electrofringe fosters an open community to present innovative projects, test prototypes, make strange music, receive feedback from audiences, and network. But due to increasing public funding cuts, organisations in Australia, including Electrofringe, are being told to crowdfund as the primary source of finance. Kimberley Bianca is the former Artistic Director (2016-2018) and current General Manager of Electrofringe, and her investigations have exposed that the amount of labour invested into crowdfunding campaigns often exceed the rewards. In order to develop new cultural economies, we must consider ways to share the ownership of cultural production. Over the past year, Kimberley has been compiling a toolkit for a P2P inspired curatorial platform. In order to challenge issues of participation- the toolkit enables collaboration, group decision making, cooperative commerce, and telepresence.
