Pass/ages
[Text nur in englischer Sprache verfügbar] We expire / when do we expire? / when did it happen? / a birthday / a cake too full of candles / friends greet you with set phrases / you can see the smiles, the printed rubber jaws / applied on the faces / their layered eyes, opaque glass, mirrors / and in the party you can forecast the rite /the cruel game that is useful to everybody / except for you

“Pass/ages” is the first of three stages of the project “Rites of passage”, developed in three years and dedicated to think about the age from a feminine point od view.
Ancient rites of passage, in human history, are representing moments of intense relationship between human beings, society and nature. Our contemporary life is poor of such rituals, but instead is full of ageism (is stereotyping and discriminating against individuals or groups on the basis of their age).
“Pass/ages” is a reflection, through the language of performance, about the fragility and strength of today’s women, trapped between society’s ageism (even if apparently ‘politically correct’) and their inner wisdom.

“Pass/ages” is a performance dedicated not only to “aged” people, but also, and especially, to young men/women, so often manipulated and used by the consumistic style of life, instigated by a generational gap not needed, which becomes an useless istigation to hate differences between generations.
Is there human dignity with expiring date? Scheduled invisibility? Constant manipulation of the identity with utilitarian and commercial aims? Common sense and civilisation would say no.
Nowadays there is still a large part of women, victim of double discrimination: the sexist-one and the ageist-one. Especially in Italy, where, because of outdated traditions, the conquest of moral and civil sense (which on the contrary should be something normal), finds serious difficulties in becoming part of the collective conscience. Women in Italy, after a certain age, seem to expire and become invisible: for the media, for the job, for the love. They often become the object of aged humiliation and disparaging attitudes.
