[Text nur in englischer Sprache verfügbar] "Imagine you are falling. But there is no ground". — Hito Steyerl
Latence is a single continuous descent into one image. It lasts thirty minutes and never arrives.
Each time the image should resolve — the moment when detail finally delivers the thing — it does not: it produces more coast. Photograph becomes grain, grain becomes crystal, crystal becomes noise, and the noise turns out to be another landscape. James Bridle calls this condition apophenia: more data, less comprehension. Measuring a coastline does not shorten it.
Linear perspective assumes a motionless spectator and a stable horizon. The latent space offers neither. Inspired by the Situationist’s concept of dérive—an unplanned journey through a landscape, “a technique of rapid passage through varied ambiances”—we explore the unknown corners of the Artificial Intelligence's in order to find ourselves back again.
Two performers, two machines, one loop.
Neither of us decides alone where to go next.
A thirty-minute drive into an image that never resolves.
